KUCHIPUDI DANCE & CARNATIC MUSIC

Guru Parampara was officially established as an organization in October 2012, and the school's objective is to spread the Indian classical arts - Kuchipudi Dance and Carnatic Music as a Parampara for many generations to come. The school grew rapidly in the last few years and has several enlisted students learning Music and/or Dance. The school participated and is participating in many major conventions and cultural programs in the Dallas area ever since. The school also had several students performing their Kuchipudi Rangapravesam and there are many more to perform in the coming years. The school also conducted a several charity events so far. There are several such programs planned in the years to come. All these programs have been huge success.

Manju Hemamalini Chavali (Hema) has been the key personality behind the school and its growth.

The Teacher

Manju Hemamalini (Hema), is one of the many jewels produced of Dr. Vempati. She learnt the art from the age of 8, first from a local Guru (Sri Chinta Adinarayana Sarma) in her home town (Guntur) and later on moved to the Kuchipudi Art Academy in Chennai at the age of 13 to learn from the maestro, Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam Master.

The following is a glimpse of Hema's Professional Career.
  • A Master of Performing Arts degree holder from the Central University Hyderabad.
  • Highly accomplished Kuchipudi Classical Dancer, Instructor and Choreographer.
  • 12 years of association with Guru, Padmabhushan, Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam.
  • Indian Council for Cultural Relations empanelled Kuchipudi Artist.
  • Grade A Doordarshan Kuchipudi Artist.
  • Professional consultancy to the Cultural department, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh to produce two famous dance ballets.
  • Performed at major festivals across India and abroad in USA, Canada, Germany, Singapore, Malaysia, Srilanka, Japan, South Korea and Indonesia.
  • Choreographed and presented 10 Dance ballets until now.
  • Also proficient in Folk Dance, Carnatic Music and Yoga.

The Guru

Padmabhushan, Guru, Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam is the modern father of the Kuchipudi Art and is well known for refining the art from its previous state to its current form and has popularized it the world over. He gave importance to visualization and gracefulness while keeping up the basic traditions of Kuchipudi art form. Any changes he brought to the form are all based on his extensive research of Natya Shastra.

He is the recipient of several distinguished honors and citations both from Government and Non-governmental associations, the highest being the Padma Bhushan award given by the Govt of India in recognition to his service to the great Classical dance form.

He has also toured several countries and spread the art all across the world. Today his style of Kuchipudi is taught not just in India but in many other countries by his disciples who are keeping the great tradition alive. He established the famous Kuchipudi Art Academy in Chennai.
